During
the week of July 4, Judy and I spent a wonderful seven days with our
daughter Amy, her OM Ken and daughters, Rebecca,
Katie
and
Morgan at their cabin in Powderhorn, CO. Ken has elk
hunted in the Gunnison area for many years and in recent years,
he and his
dad
bought the lodge. Much of the woodwork in the cabin was
done by Ken's dad and is a work of art. It will sleep
twelve, more
if you rough it. The cabin is up nearly 10,000 ft and is about forty
minutes "up hill" on unpaved road once you leave
US 50.
During the week we visited
Gunnison, Montrose, Crested Butte, Ouray, Lake City and Silverton. We spent the 4th
in Lake City where
we took part in a real "American 4th of
July"
This was a day to make you proud to be an American with a firemen's parade,
school
bands, kids games, sack
and three leg races, country
music
and dancing in the streets, topped of with a fireworks display.
During
mid day, we
drove to the top of a
mountain and threw
snowballs
at our granddaughters. On another day, Amy took her dad fly
fishing in one of the many breath taking
streams. Beautiful, clear water 24/7 and all from melting
snow. Unbelievable!
Very few
times
in my life have I experienced any place as beautiful as Colorado. I
recommend a vacation there to everyone. Photos
below are of
the
vacation and are in no particular order....
